Living things respond to changes around them, and every response is controlled: the right movement for the right event. In multicellular organisms special tissues do this control and coordination — in animals the nervous system and hormones, in plants hormones (chemical signals). Living things apne aas-paas ke changes par response dete hain, aur har response controlled hota hai: sahi event par sahi movement. The impulse travels dendrite → cell body → along the axon to its end. At the nerve ending the impulse releases chemicals, which cross the gap — the synapse — and start a similar impulse in the next neuron. A similar synapse passes impulses from neurons to muscle cells or glands (neuromuscular junction). 3D neuron3Dतंत्रिका कोशिका (न्यूरॉन) में द्रुमिका के सिरे पर मिली सूचना एक रासायनिक क्रिया से विद्युत आवेग बनाती है। 3D न्यूरॉन3DNeuron mein dendrite ke sire par mili information ek chemical reaction se electrical impulse banati hai. 6.1.1What happens in reflex actions?
A reflex action is a sudden response to a stimulus, done without thinking — like pulling your hand back from a flame. Thinking takes time, so the nerve that detects heat is connected to the nerve that moves muscles in a simpler way. This connection is a reflex arc. Reflex arcs are formed in the spinal cord, where nerves from all over the body meet; the information also goes on to the brain. Reflex action kisi stimulus par achanak response hai jo bina soche hota hai — jaise flame se haath kheench lena. Sochne mein time lagta hai, isliye garmi pehchaanne wali nerve, muscle chalane wali nerve se simple tareeke se judi hoti hai. Ye connection reflex arc hai. Reflex arcs spinal cord mein bante hain, jahan poore body ki nerves milti hain; information brain tak bhi jaati hai.
Reflex arcप्रतिवर्ती चापReflex arcNCERT Fig 6.2 · 6 tappable partsOpenMany animals have little or no complex neuron network for thinking, so reflex arcs probably evolved as efficient ways to respond quickly. Even in animals that can think, reflex arcs remain faster for urgent responses. Kai jaanwaron mein sochne ke liye complex neuron network bahut kam ya nahi hota, isliye reflex arcs tez response ke efficient tareeke ke roop mein evolve hue. Sochne wale jaanwaron mein bhi urgent response ke liye reflex arcs zyada tez hain.
6.1.2Human brainमानव मस्तिष्कHuman brain (Maanav mastishk)
The brain is the main coordinating centre. Brain + spinal cord = central nervous system (CNS). The peripheral nervous system — cranial nerves from the brain and spinal nerves from the spinal cord — connects the CNS with the rest of the body. Writing, talking, moving a chair, clapping are voluntary actions: the brain decides and sends messages to muscles. 3DBrain main coordinating centre hai. 6.1.3How are these tissues protected?
The brain sits inside a bony box (the skull/cranium). Inside it, the brain is in a fluid-filled balloon that absorbs shocks. The spinal cord is protected by the vertebral column (backbone). 3D spinal cord3Dमस्तिष्क एक हड्डियों के बक्से (खोपड़ी/कपाल) में रहता है। 3DBrain ek haddi ke box (skull) ke andar rehta hai. 6.1.4How does the nervous tissue cause action?
Muscle tissue does the final job. When a nerve impulse reaches a muscle, its cells change shape and shorten. Muscle cells have special proteins that change their shape and arrangement in response to nerve impulses, giving the cell a shorter form. Voluntary muscles (e.g. leg muscles) move by our will; involuntary muscles do not. Aakhri kaam muscle tissue karta hai. Nerve impulse muscle tak pahunchne par uske cells shape badal kar chhote ho jaate hain. Muscle cells mein special proteins hote hain jo impulse milne par apni shape aur arrangement badal dete hain, jisse cell chhota ho jaata hai.
Paudhon mein coordination
Plants have no nervous system and no muscles. They show two kinds of movement: one independent of growth (leaves of the sensitive plant folding on touch) and one dependent on growth (a seedling's root going down, stem going up). Paudhon mein na nervous system hai, na muscles. Wo do tarah ki movement dikhate hain: ek growth par nirbhar nahi (chhoone par chhui-mui ki pattiyon ka mudna) aur doosri growth par nirbhar (seedling ki jad neeche, tana upar).
Stimulus par turant response
When the leaves of chhui-mui (sensitive / touch-me-not plant, Mimosa family) are touched, they fold up and droop — fast, with no growth. The movement happens at a point different from the touch, so the information is passed on by electrical-chemical means from cell to cell, but plants have no specialised tissue for conducting it. Cells change shape by changing the amount of water in them — swelling or shrinking. Chhui-mui (sensitive / touch-me-not plant, Mimosa family) ki pattiyon ko chhoone par wo mudkar jhuk jaati hain — tezi se, bina growth ke. Movement chhoone wali jagah se alag jagah hoti hai, isliye information cell se cell electrical-chemical tareeke se jaati hai, par paudhon mein iske liye koi special tissue nahi hota. Cells apne andar paani ki maatra badal kar — phool kar ya sikud kar — shape badalte hain.
Growth ki wajah se movement
Tendrils (e.g. pea plant) are sensitive to touch: the part touching a support grows slower than the part away from it, so the tendril circles around and clings to the support. More commonly, plants grow in a particular direction in response to a stimulus — directional (tropic) movement, towards or away from the stimulus. Tendrils (jaise matar ka paudha) touch ke prati sensitive hain: support ko chhoone wala hissa door wale hisse se dheere badhta hai, isliye tendril support ke chaaron taraf lipat jaata hai. Aksar paudhe stimulus ke hisaab se kisi khaas direction mein badhte hain — directional (tropic) movement, stimulus ki taraf ya usse door.

- Chemotropism (chemicals): e.g. growth of pollen tubes towards ovules. Chemotropism (chemicals): jaise pollen tube ka ovule ki taraf badhna.
Electrical impulses are fast but limited: they reach only cells connected by nervous tissue, and a cell needs time to reset before the next impulse. So most multicellular organisms also use chemical communication — slower, but it can reach all cells, steadily and persistently. Electrical impulses tez hain par limited: ye sirf nervous tissue se jude cells tak pahunchte hain, aur agla impulse banane se pehle cell ko reset hone mein time lagta hai. Isliye zyaadatar multicellular jeev chemical communication bhi karte hain — dheema, par ye saare cells tak lagataar pahunch sakta hai.
Animals mein hormones
In an emergency (say, a squirrel facing danger) the body prepares to fight or run. Adrenaline, from the adrenal glands, is secreted directly into the blood and reaches target organs: the heart beats faster (more oxygen to muscles); blood to the digestive system and skin is reduced (muscles around small arteries contract) and diverted to skeletal muscles; the breathing rate increases (diaphragm and rib muscles contract). Emergency mein (jaise khatre mein gilahri) body ladne ya bhaagne ko taiyaar hoti hai. Adrenal glands se nikla adrenaline seedhe blood mein secrete hokar target organs tak pahunchta hai: heart tez dhadakta hai (muscles ko zyada oxygen); digestive system aur skin ko blood kam (chhoti arteries ke aas-paas ki muscles sikudti hain) aur skeletal muscles ki taraf mod diya jaata hai; diaphragm aur pasliyon ki muscles sikudne se saans tez hoti hai.
