Structure of a neuronतंत्रिका कोशिका (न्यूरॉन) की संरचना
NCERT Fig 6.1 (a) · interactive diagram
Parts and their functions
- Dendrites (द्रुमिका) — Branched tips that acquire information (stimulus) and start the electrical impulse.
- Cell body (कोशिकाकाय) — Main part of the neuron; the impulse passes from dendrites through it to the axon.
- Nucleus (केंद्रक) — Controls the activities of the nerve cell.
- Axon (तंत्रिकाक्ष (एक्सॉन)) — Long fibre that carries the electrical impulse away from the cell body to its end.
- Nerve ending (तंत्रिका का अंतिम सिरा) — Here the electrical impulse sets off the release of chemicals.
- Synapse (सिनेप्स (अंतर्ग्रथन)) — Gap between two neurons (or neuron and muscle/gland). Chemicals cross it and start an impulse in the next cell.
