Parts and their functions
- Receptor (ग्राही) — Detects the stimulus (e.g. heat in the skin) and starts the impulse.
- Sensory neuron (संवेदी न्यूरॉन) — Carries the impulse from the receptor to the spinal cord.
- Relay neuron (प्रसारण न्यूरॉन) — Inside the spinal cord; passes the message from the sensory neuron to the motor neuron.
- Spinal cord (मेरुरज्जु) — Reflex arcs are formed here, where nerves from the body meet. Information also goes on to the brain.
- Motor neuron (प्रेरक न्यूरॉन) — Carries the command from the spinal cord to the muscle.
- Effector (muscle) (कार्यकर (पेशी)) — The muscle that acts — e.g. pulls the hand away from the flame.
