Light ka reflection

Light travels in straight lines (a small source casts a sharp shadow). A highly polished surface such as a mirror reflects most of the light falling on it. Laws of reflection: (i) the angle of incidence equals the angle of reflection; (ii) the incident ray, the normal at the point of incidence and the reflected ray all lie in the same plane. These laws hold for all reflecting surfaces, including spherical ones. Light seedhi line mein chalta hai (chhota source sharp shadow banata hai). Mirror jaisi chamakdaar surface apne upar padne wala zyada-tar light reflect kar deti hai. Reflection ke niyam: (i) angle of incidence = angle of reflection; (ii) incident ray, normal aur reflected ray ek hi plane mein hote hain. Ye niyam spherical surfaces samet sabhi surfaces par lagte hain.

A plane mirror forms an image that is virtual and erect, of the same size as the object, as far behind the mirror as the object is in front, and laterally inverted. Plane mirror ki image virtual aur erect hoti hai, object ke barabar size ki, mirror ke peeche utni hi doori par jitna object saamne hai, aur laterally inverted hoti hai.

9.2Spherical mirrorsगोलीय दर्पणSpherical mirrors

A mirror whose reflecting surface is part of a hollow sphere is a spherical mirror. Concave mirror: reflecting surface curved inwards (faces the centre of the sphere). Convex mirror: reflecting surface curved outwards. Spherical mirrors ke ray diagrams

To locate an image, draw at least two of these rays from the top of the object; the image is where the reflected rays meet (real) or appear to meet (virtual). At the point of incidence, reflection always obeys i = r. Image ki jagah ke liye object ke top se inmein se kam se kam do rays kheenchiye; image wahan banti hai jahan reflected rays milti hain (real) ya milti lagti hain (virtual). 9.3Refraction of lightप्रकाश का अपवर्तनLight ka refraction

When light goes obliquely from one transparent medium into another, its direction changes at the boundary — this is refraction. It happens because light has different speeds in different media. (A pencil looks bent in water; a tank looks shallower; letters look raised under a glass slab.) Jab light ek transparent medium se doosre mein tirchha jaata hai to boundary par uski disha badal jaati hai — yahi refraction hai. Wajah: alag mediums mein light ki speed alag hoti hai. (Paani mein pencil mudi dikhti hai; tank uthla dikhta hai; glass slab ke neeche letters upar uthe dikhte hain.)

Air → glass: the ray bends towards the normal. Glass → air: it bends away from the normal. Since the two faces are parallel, the emergent ray is parallel to the incident ray (e = i) but shifted sideways — the lateral displacement. f = 1/P = 1/(−2.0) = −0.50 m = −50 cm: a concave (diverging) lens.f = 1/P = 1/(−2.0) = −0.50 m = −50 cm: f = 1/P = 1/(−2.0) = −0.50 m = −50 cm: concave (diverging) lens.
17. A doctor has prescribed a corrective lens of power +1.5 D. Find the focal length of the lens. Is the prescribed lens diverging or converging?17. Doctor ne +1.5 D ka lens likha. Focal length? Diverging ya converging?
f = 1/1.5 = +0.67 m ≈ 66.7 cm: a converging (convex) lens.f = 1/1.5 = +0.67 m ≈ 66.7 cm: अभिसारी (उत्तल) लेंस।f = 1/1.5 = +0.67 m ≈ 66.7 cm: converging (convex) lens.
