Parts and their functions
- Object AB (बिंब AB) — Anywhere in front of a convex mirror.
- Parallel ray → appears to come from F (समांतर किरण → F से आती प्रतीत) — After reflection it diverges; extended backwards (dashed) it passes through F behind the mirror.
- Ray directed towards C → reflected back (C की ओर जाती किरण → उसी पथ पर वापस) — It strikes the mirror along the normal, so it retraces its path.
- Image A′B′ (virtual) (प्रतिबिंब A′B′ (आभासी)) — Formed where the dashed extensions meet: behind the mirror, between P and F. Virtual, erect, diminished.
- Convex mirror (उत्तल दर्पण) — Bulges outwards. F and C are behind it, so f and R are positive. Used as rear-view mirror.
