NCERT Fig 9.7 (b) · interactive diagram
Parts and their functions
- Object AB (बिंब AB) — Placed beyond C, standing on the principal axis.
- Ray parallel to the axis → through F (अक्ष के समांतर किरण → F से होकर) — Rule 1: a ray parallel to the principal axis passes through F after reflection.
- Ray through F → parallel to the axis (F से होकर किरण → अक्ष के समांतर) — Rule 2: a ray through the principal focus becomes parallel to the principal axis after reflection.
- Image A′B′ (प्रतिबिंब A′B′) — Where the reflected rays actually meet: between F and C. Real, inverted, smaller than the object.
- Concave mirror (अवतल दर्पण) — Pole P; C and F lie in front of the mirror, so f and R are negative.
