Key points ✍️मुख्य बातें ✍️Key points ✍️

  • Change of state — a transition between solid, liquid and gas. Change of state — solid, liquid aur gas ke beech transition.
  • Constant temperature — while the state changes, the temperature stays constant even though heat is being added (or removed). Constant temperature — state badalte waqt heat dene (ya lene) par bhi temperature constant rehta hai.
  • Melting point — temperature at which solid and liquid are in thermal equilibrium; depends on pressure. At standard atmospheric pressure it is the normal melting point. Melting point — wo temperature jis par solid aur liquid thermal equilibrium mein hon; pressure par depend. Standard atmospheric pressure par ye normal melting point hai.
  • Boiling point — liquid and vapour in equilibrium; the boiling point at standard atmospheric pressure is the normal boiling point. Boiling point — liquid aur vapour equilibrium mein; standard atmospheric pressure par boiling point = normal boiling point.
  • Latent heat — L = Q/m: heat per unit mass for a change of state, so Q = mL. SI unit J kg⁻¹; its value depends on pressure. Latent heat — L = Q/m: change of state ke liye per unit mass heat, isliye Q = mL. SI unit J kg⁻¹; value pressure par depend.
  • Water’s values — Lf = 3.33 × 10⁵ J kg⁻¹ (melting at 0 °C); Lv = 22.6 × 10⁵ J kg⁻¹ (boiling at 100 °C). Water ke values — Lf = 3.33 × 10⁵ J kg⁻¹ (0 °C par melting); Lv = 22.6 × 10⁵ J kg⁻¹ (100 °C par boiling).
  • Long boiling plateau — Lv is much larger than Lf, so the 100 °C line is much longer than the 0 °C line. Lamba boiling plateau — Lv, Lf se bahut bada hai, isliye 100 °C wali line 0 °C wali se bahut lambi hai.
  • Steam burns — steam at 100 °C carries 22.6 × 10⁵ J kg⁻¹ more heat than water at 100 °C, so steam burns are more serious. Steam se jalna — 100 °C ki steam 100 °C ke paani se 22.6 × 10⁵ J kg⁻¹ zyada heat rakhti hai, isliye steam burn zyada serious.
  • Different slopes — the sloping lines for ice, water and steam have different slopes, so their specific heats are not equal (Fig 10.12). Alag slopes — ice, water aur steam ki sloping lines ke slope alag hain, isliye unki specific heats barabar nahi (Fig 10.12).
  • Pressure and boiling — lower pressure on hills → lower boiling point; pressure cooker → higher boiling point, faster cooking. Pressure aur boiling — pahadon par kam pressure → kam boiling point; pressure cooker → zyada boiling point, jaldi khana.
  • Sublimation — solid → vapour directly (dry ice, iodine); solid and vapour coexist in equilibrium. Sublimation — solid → vapour seedha (dry ice, iodine); solid aur vapour equilibrium mein saath rehte hain.
  • Mixing problems — heat lost by the hot body = heat gained by the cold body, including any mL for melting (Example 10.4). Mixing problems — garam body ki di gayi heat = thandi body ki li gayi heat, melting ka mL bhi jod kar (Example 10.4).
