Introduction — scalar product

In everyday language “work” means any effort. In physics, work is done only when a force moves its point of application. To define it we need the scalar (dot) product of two vectors: A · B = AB cos θ — a scalar (Fig 5.1). It is commutative (A·B = B·A) and distributive; î·î = 1, î·ĵ = 0, so A·B = AₓBₓ + A_yB_y + A_zB_z. यह क्रमविनिमेय (A·B = B·A) और वितरणात्मक है; î·î = 1, î·ĵ = 0, अतः A·B = AₓBₓ + A_yB_y + A_zB_z।Roz ki bhasha mein “work” koi bhi mehnat. Physics mein work tabhi jab force apne point ko hilaaye. Iske liye scalar (dot) product: A · B = AB cos θ — scalar (Fig 5.1). Commutative aur distributive; î·î = 1, î·ĵ = 0, to A·B = AₓBₓ + A_yB_y + A_zB_z.

5.2Notions of work and kinetic energy: the work-energy theoremकार्य और गतिज ऊर्जा की धारणा: कार्य-ऊर्जा प्रमेयWork aur kinetic energy: work-energy theorem

From v² − u² = 2as, multiplying by m/2: ½mv² − ½mu² = mas = Fs. So the change in kinetic energy of a particle equals the work done on it by the net force — the work-energy (WE) theorem: K_f − K_i = W.v² − u² = 2as v² − u² = 2as ko m/2 se guna: ½mv² − ½mu² = Fs. 5.7The concept of potential energyस्थितिज ऊर्जा की अवधारणाPotential energy ka concept

Potential energy is energy stored because of position or configuration — a raised ball, a stretched bow. Near the earth V(h) = mgh. In general F = −dV/dx. A force is conservative if (i) it can be derived from a potential, (ii) the work it does depends only on the end points, not the path, and (iii) its work around any closed path is zero. Gravity and spring forces are conservative; friction and air drag are not.
