Parts and their functions
- Incoming mass m₁ with v₁ᵢ (आने वाला द्रव्यमान m₁, वेग v₁ᵢ) — All initial momentum is along x.
- Target m₂ at rest (लक्ष्य m₂ विराम में) — Initial momentum zero.
- m₁ after collision (संघट्ट के बाद m₁) — Moves at θ₁ above the x-axis.
- m₂ after collision (संघट्ट के बाद m₂) — Moves at θ₂ below the x-axis.
- Angle θ₁ (कोण θ₁) — Must be measured (one more equation is needed).
- Angle θ₂ (कोण θ₂) — Example 5.12: billiard balls, θ₂ = 37° ⇒ θ₁ = 53°.
- Momentum along x and y (x और y पर संवेग) — Momentum is conserved in each direction; for an elastic collision KE is conserved too.
