Introduction

Chapters 2 and 3 described motion (kinematics). Now we ask what causes motion — this is dynamics. A body at rest needs an external agency, a force, to start moving, and a moving body needs a force to speed up, slow down or turn. Some forces need contact (a push, friction); others act at a distance (gravity, magnetic force). Chapter 2 aur 3 mein motion ka varnan (kinematics) tha. Ab sawaal: motion ka kaaran kya hai — ye dynamics hai. Rukī cheez ko chalane ke liye bahari force chahiye; chalti cheez ki speed badhane, ghatane ya direction badalne ke liye bhi force chahiye. Kuch forces ko contact chahiye (dhakka, friction); kuch door se lagte hain (gravity, magnetic force).

Aristotle ki galti

Aristotle held that an external force is needed to keep a body moving with uniform velocity. This is wrong. A moving toy car stops because friction opposes it; an external force is needed only to cancel friction. Without friction no force would be needed to keep it moving. Aristotle maante the ki uniform velocity se chalte rehne ke liye bhi force chahiye. Ye galat hai. Toy car friction ki wajah se rukti hai; force sirf friction ko cancel karne ke liye chahiye. Friction na ho to chalte rehne ke liye koi force nahi chahiye.

Inertia ka niyam

Galileo studied balls on inclined planes. Rolling down they speed up, rolling up they slow down, so on a horizontal plane they should keep a constant velocity. With a double incline, the ball rises to nearly the same height; making the second plane horizontal, it would travel forever. Conclusion — the state of rest or uniform linear motion are equivalent; no net force is needed to keep uniform motion. This resistance of a body to change in its state is inertia. Galileo ne inclined planes par balls dekhin. Neeche lurhakte speed badhti, upar jaate ghatti, to horizontal plane par constant velocity rehni chahiye. Double incline par ball lagbhag utni hi oonchai tak chadhti; doosra plane horizontal karo to hamesha chalti rahegi. Nishkarsh — rest aur uniform linear motion barabar hain; uniform motion ke liye koi net force nahi chahiye. Halat badalne ka ye virodh inertia hai.

4.4Newton’s first law of motionन्यूटन का गति का पहला नियमNewton ka pehla niyam

First lawEvery body continues in its state of rest or of uniform motion in a straight line unless compelled by some external force to act otherwise. If the net external force is zero, the acceleration is zero. Pehla niyamHar cheez apni rest ya seedhi line mein uniform motion ki halat mein tab tak rehti hai jab tak koi bahari force use badalne par majboor na kare. Net external force zero to acceleration zero.

A book on a table is at rest: its weight is balanced by the normal force of the table, so the net force is zero. A car moving at uniform velocity on a road: the push from the road (via friction on the tyres) balances the air drag, net force zero. Passengers jerk backward when a bus starts and forward when it stops — their bodies tend to stay in their earlier state (inertia). Table par rakhi kitaab rest mein: weight ko table ka normal force balance karta hai, net force zero. Uniform velocity wali car mein road ka push (tyres par friction se) air drag ko balance karta hai. Bus chalne par yaatri peeche, rukne par aage jhukte hain — body pehli halat mein rehna chahti hai (inertia).

Solved (NCERT Example 4.1)An astronaut gets separated from his spaceship, which accelerates at 100 m s⁻² in interstellar space. His acceleration the instant he is outside? No stars nearby and the small ship’s pull is negligible, so the net force on him is zero ⇒ a = 0 (he moves on with the velocity he had at that instant). Solved (NCERT Example 4.1)Astronaut 100 m s⁻² se accelerate karte spaceship se alag ho jaata hai. Bahar aate hi uska acceleration? Koi star paas nahi, ship ka pull negligible ⇒ net force zero ⇒ a = 0 (us pal ki velocity se chalta rehta hai).

Newton ka doosra niyam

Experience shows the effect of a force depends on mass and velocity together: stopping a loaded truck is harder than an empty one, a fast ball stings more. So we define momentum p = mv (a vector, SI unit kg m s⁻¹). A cricketer draws his hands back while catching to increase the stopping time and reduce the force. Anubhav: force ka asar mass aur velocity dono par. Bhara truck rokna khaali se mushkil, tez ball zyada chot karti hai. Isliye momentum p = mv (vector, unit kg m s⁻¹). Catch lete waqt player haath peeche kheenchta hai taaki rokne ka time badhe aur force ghate.

Second lawThe rate of change of momentum of a body is directly proportional to the applied force and takes place in the direction of the force: F = dp/dt = ma (mass constant). SI unit of force: newton, 1 N = 1 kg m s⁻². Doosra niyamMomentum badalne ki dar lagaye force ke proportional aur force ki direction mein: F = dp/dt = ma (mass constant). •ImpulseआवेगImpulse

When a large force acts for a very short time (a bat hitting a ball, a ball bouncing off a wall), force and time are hard to measure separately but their product is easy: impulse = F × Δt = change in momentum Δp. A large force acting briefly is an impulsive force. The impulse on a ball bouncing off a wall is always along the normal to the wall (Fig 4.6). Bada force bahut kam time lage (bat ka ball par hit, deewar se uchhalti ball) to force aur time alag naapna mushkil, par product aasaan: impulse = F × Δt = momentum ka badlav Δp. (b) After: for the 27 kg system, 270 − R = 27 × 0.1 ⇒ R = 267.3 N; by the third law the system presses the floor with 267.3 N downward. Pairs: gravity on the body by the earth ↔ gravity on the earth by the body; force on the floor by the body ↔ force on the body by the floor (and, in (b), cylinder on block ↔ block on cylinder). 4.7Conservation of momentumसंवेग संरक्षणMomentum ka sanrakshan

For two bodies A and B interacting only with each other, F_AB Δt = −F_BA Δt ⇒ Δp_A = −Δp_B ⇒ p_A + p_B = constant. The total momentum of an isolated system of interacting particles is conserved. Examples: a gun recoils when it fires (m_g v_g = −m_b v_b); in any collision the total momentum before = total momentum after. Sirf aapas mein interact karti A aur B: Δp_A = −Δp_B ⇒ p_A + p_B = constant. 4.8Equilibrium of a particleकिसी कण की साम्यावस्थाParticle ka equilibrium

A particle is in equilibrium when the net external force on it is zero (at rest or in uniform motion). Two forces must be equal and opposite. Three concurrent forces must satisfy F₁ + F₂ + F₃ = 0 — they form a closed triangle — i.e. ΣFₓ = 0, ΣF_y = 0, ΣF_z = 0. A free-body diagram shows only the forces on the chosen body (Fig 4.8). Particle equilibrium mein jab net external force zero (rest ya uniform motion). 4.9Common forces in mechanicsयांत्रिकी में सामान्य बलMechanics ke aam forces

Gravity acts at a distance; all other everyday forces are contact forces — the normal reaction, friction, tension in a string, the force of a spring, buoyancy and viscous drag in fluids. Microscopically they all come from electromagnetic forces between charged particles. A spring obeys F = −kx (k = spring constant), the force always opposing the extension or compression. Gravity door se lagti hai; baaki roz ke forces contact forces — normal reaction, friction, string ka tension, spring force, fluids mein buoyancy aur viscous drag. Andar se sab electromagnetic forces se aate hain. Spring F = −kx maanti hai (k = spring constant); force hamesha khinchav/dabav ka virodh karta hai.

•Frictionघर्षणFriction

Static friction fₛ opposes impending relative motion. It is self-adjusting: it equals the applied force up to a limit, fₛ ≤ μₛN (μₛ = coefficient of static friction, independent of contact area). Once sliding begins, kinetic (sliding) friction f_k = μ_k N acts, and μ_k < μₛ, nearly independent of speed. On an incline, a block just begins to slide at tan θ_max = μₛ (Fig 4.11). Rolling friction is much smaller; ball bearings and lubricants reduce friction, while friction is essential for walking, braking and turning. Static friction fₛ hone wali relative motion ka virodh karta hai. Self-adjusting: ek limit tak applied force ke barabar, fₛ ≤ μₛN (contact area par depend nahi). Fisalna shuru hote hi kinetic (sliding) friction f_k = μ_k N, μ_k < μₛ. Incline par block tan θ_max = μₛ par fisalta hai (Fig 4.11). Rolling friction bahut kam; ball bearings aur lubricants friction ghatate hain, par chalne, brake aur mudne ke liye friction zaroori.

4.10Circular motionवृत्तीय गतिCircular motion

A body moving in a circle needs a net force towards the centre, the centripetal force f_c = mv²/R. For a stone on a string it is the tension; for a planet, gravity; for a car on a level road, only static friction: mv²/R ≤ μₛmg ⇒ v_max = √(μₛRg), independent of the car’s mass. On a banked road (outer edge raised by θ), the horizontal component of the normal force also helps (Fig 4.14). Circle mein chalti cheez ko centre ki taraf net force chahiye, centripetal force f_c = mv²/R.   • Thinking a force is needed to keep a body moving at constant velocity (Aristotle’s fallacy). Force is needed only to change velocity. Sochna ki constant velocity ke liye force chahiye (Aristotle ki galti). (e) No force acts at all, since there is no agency to exert one. Sab zero. 4.2 A 0.05 kg pebble is thrown vertically up. Net force (a) going up (b) coming down (c) at the top? Would the answers change if it were thrown at 45°? 4.2 0.05 kg kankad seedha upar. In every case only gravity acts: F = mg = 0.05 × 10 = 0.5 N vertically downward — going up, coming down and at the top. At 45° the answers are the same; but then at the top the pebble is not at rest — it keeps its horizontal velocity. Har case mein sirf gravity: F = 0.5 N neeche. 45° par bhi same; par tab top par kankad ruka nahi — horizontal velocity rehti hai.

Dikhaiye ki wo ulti directions mein jaayenge.
No external force ⇒ momentum is conserved: 0 = m₁v₁ + m₂v₂ ⇒ v₁ = −(m₂/m₁)v₂. Two momentum vectors can add to zero only if they are equal and opposite, so the nuclei fly apart along one line in opposite directions. Momentum conserved: 0 = m₁v₁ + m₂v₂ ⇒ v₁ = −(m₂/m₁)v₂ — ulti direction.
4.18 Two billiard balls of 0.05 kg each move in opposite directions at 6 m s⁻¹, collide and rebound with the same speed. Impulse on each ball due to the other?4.18 0.05 kg प्रत्येक पर दूसरी के कारण आवेग?4.18 Do 0.05 kg billiard balls 6 m s⁻¹ se aamne-saamne, takra ke same speed se wapas. Har ek par impulse?
For one ball: Δp = 0.05 × (−6) − 0.05 × 6 = −0.6 kg m s⁻¹. Impulse on each = 0.6 kg m s⁻¹ in magnitude, the two impulses opposite in direction. Δp = 0.6 kg m s⁻¹ har ek par, ulti directions.

4.20 A batsman deflects a ball by an angle of 45° without changing its speed of 54 km h⁻¹. Impulse imparted? (गेंद 0.15 kg)4.20 Batsman ball ko 45° deflect karta hai, speed 54 km h⁻¹ same. Impulse? (0.15 kg)
v = 15 m s⁻¹. As in NCERT’s answer, the incoming and outgoing directions make 45° with each other’s line (the ball is turned back), so the impulse is along the bisector: |Δp| = 2mv cos 22.5° = 2 × 0.15 × 15 × 0.924 = 4.2 kg m s⁻¹. (If instead the ball’s direction changed by only 45°, |Δp| = 2mv sin 22.5° = 1.7 kg m s⁻¹.)v = 15 m s⁻¹। NCERT उत्तर के अनुसार गेंद वापस मोड़ी जाती है और आने-जाने की दिशाओं के बीच 45° का संबंध है, आवेग समद्विभाजक के अनुदिश: |Δp| = 2mv cos 22.5° = 2 × 0.15 × 15 × 0.924 = 4.2 kg m s⁻¹। (यदि दिशा केवल 45° बदले तो |Δp| = 2mv sin 22.5° = 1.7 kg m s⁻¹)।v = 15 m s⁻¹. NCERT ke hisaab se impulse bisector ke along: |Δp| = 2mv cos 22.5° = 4.2 kg m s⁻¹. (Agar direction sirf 45° badle to 1.7 kg m s⁻¹.)

Maximum speed if the string can bear at most 200 N?4.21 0.25 kg Tension? 200 N max ho to max speed?
v = 2πR × (40/60) = 2π × 1.5 × 0.667 = 2π m s⁻¹ = 6.28 m s⁻¹; T = mv²/R = 0.25 × 39.5/1.5 = 6.6 N. Max: 200 = 0.25 v²/1.5 ⇒ v² = 1200 ⇒ v_max ≈ 35 m s⁻¹.v = 2π × 1.5 × 40/60 = 2π m s⁻¹; T = mv²/R = 0.25 × 39.5/1.5 = 6.6 N। अधिकतम: 200 = 0.25 v²/1.5 ⇒ v² = 1200 ⇒ v_max ≈ 35 m s⁻¹।v = 2π m s⁻¹; T = 6.6 N. v² = 1200 ⇒ v_max ≈ 35 m s⁻¹.
4.22 If in Ex 4.21 the speed exceeds the maximum and the string breaks, the stone (a) moves radially outwards (b) flies off tangentially (c) flies off at an angle with the tangent depending on speed?4.22 यदि अभ्यास 4.21 में चाल अधिकतम से बढ़ जाए और डोरी टूट जाए, तो पत्थर (a) त्रिज्या के अनुदिश बाहर (b) स्पर्श-रेखा के अनुदिश (c) चाल पर निर्भर कोण पर?4.22 String toot jaaye to pathar (a) radially bahar (b) tangent ke along (c) speed par depend angle?
(b) — at that instant its velocity is along the tangent and no horizontal force acts any more, so by the first law it moves along the tangent.(b) — उस क्षण वेग स्पर्श-रेखा के अनुदिश है और अब कोई क्षैतिज बल नहीं, अतः पहले नियम से स्पर्श-रेखा पर चलता है।(b) — us pal velocity tangent par, aur koi horizontal force nahi.
4.23 Explain why (a) a horse cannot pull a cart and run in empty space (b) passengers are thrown forward when a speeding bus stops suddenly (c) it is easier to pull a lawn mower than to push it (d) a cricketer moves his hands back while catching.4.23 समझाइए क्यों (a) घोड़ा खाली आकाश में गाड़ी खींचकर नहीं दौड़ सकता (b) तेज़ बस अचानक रुकने पर यात्री आगे गिरते हैं (c) लॉन मोवर को धकेलने से खींचना आसान है (d) कैच लेते समय क्रिकेटर हाथ पीछे करता है।4.23 Kyon: (a) khaali space mein ghoda gaadi kheench ke daud nahi sakta (b) bus achanak rukne par yaatri aage girte (c) lawn mower kheenchna dhakelne se aasaan (d) catch par haath peeche.
(a) The horse and cart pull each other with equal and opposite (internal) forces; to move, the system needs an external force — on the ground it is friction from the road on the horse’s feet. In empty space there is none. (b) Inertia of motion: the feet stop with the bus, the upper body keeps moving forward. (c) Pulling at an angle has an upward component that reduces N, so friction (∝ N) is less; pushing adds a downward component, increasing N and friction. (d) Increasing the stopping time reduces the rate of change of momentum, so the force on the hands is smaller.(a) (a) Ghoda-gaadi ke forces internal; chalne ke liye external force (zameen ka friction) chahiye, jo space mein nahi. (b) Inertia of motion: pair ruk jaate, upar ka sharir aage. (c) Kheenchne mein upar wala component N ghatata hai, friction kam; dhakelne mein N badhta. (d) Time badhne se momentum change ki dar ghatti, force kam.
