Key points ✍️मुख्य बातें ✍️Key points ✍️
- Photoelectric effect — emission of electrons from a metal surface when light of suitable frequency falls on it. Photoelectric effect — sahi frequency ki light padne par metal surface se electrons ka nikalna.
- Apparatus — evacuated glass/quartz tube with photosensitive emitter C and collector A; quartz window lets UV through. Apparatus — evacuated glass/quartz tube, photosensitive emitter C aur collector A; quartz window UV ko jaane deti hai.
- Controls — battery varies the C–A potential, commutator reverses polarity, filters change frequency, distance changes intensity. Controls — battery C–A potential badalti hai, commutator polarity ulat deta hai, filter frequency aur doori intensity badalti hai.
- Effect of intensity — photocurrent ∝ intensity (Fig 11.2): electrons emitted per second ∝ intensity. Effect of intensity — photocurrent ∝ intensity (Fig 11.2): per second nikle electrons ∝ intensity.
- Saturation current — maximum current when all emitted electrons reach A; higher for higher intensity. Saturation current — maximum current jab saare nikle electrons A tak pahunchen; zyada intensity par zyada.
- Stopping potential V₀ — minimum negative potential of A at which the photocurrent becomes zero. Stopping potential V₀ — A ka minimum negative potential jis par photocurrent zero ho jaata hai.
- Kmax = eV₀ — V₀ stops even the most energetic photoelectrons (Eq. 11.1).Kmax = eV₀ — V₀ सबसे ऊर्जावान प्रकाशिक इलेक्ट्रॉनों को भी रोक देता है (समी. 11.1)।Kmax = eV₀ — V₀ sabse energetic photoelectrons ko bhi rok deta hai (Eq. 11.1).
- V₀ vs intensity — for a given frequency, V₀ is independent of intensity (Fig 11.3).V₀ बनाम तीव्रता — दी गई आवृत्ति पर V₀ तीव्रता पर निर्भर नहीं (चित्र 11.3)।V₀ vs intensity — di gayi frequency par V₀ intensity par depend nahi karta (Fig 11.3).
- V₀ vs frequency — higher frequency → larger V₀; same saturation current for different frequencies at the same intensity (Fig 11.4).V₀ बनाम आवृत्ति — अधिक आवृत्ति → अधिक V₀; समान तीव्रता पर विभिन्न आवृत्तियों के लिए संतृप्त धारा समान (चित्र 11.4)।V₀ vs frequency — zyada frequency → zyada V₀; same intensity par alag frequencies ke liye saturation current same (Fig 11.4).
- Threshold frequency ν₀ — below ν₀ no emission, however intense the light; ν₀ differs from metal to metal. Threshold frequency ν₀ — ν₀ se kam par koi emission nahi, chahe light kitni bhi tez ho; ν₀ har metal ke liye alag.
- Instantaneous — emission starts with no apparent time lag (~10⁻⁹ s or less), even for very dim light. Instantaneous — bahut dheemi light mein bhi emission bina time lag (~10⁻⁹ s ya kam) ke shuru.
- Material matters — selenium is more sensitive than zinc or copper; ultraviolet light gives photoelectric effect in copper, but green or red light does not. Material matters — selenium, zinc ya copper se zyada sensitive hai; ultraviolet light copper mein photoelectric effect deti hai, par green ya red light nahi.
