Key points ✍️मुख्य बातें ✍️Key points ✍️

  • Reversible process — one that is quasi-static and non-dissipative; it can be retraced exactly. Reversible process — jo quasi-static aur non-dissipative ho; use bilkul ulta chalaya ja sake.
  • Irreversibility — comes from non-equilibrium states (free expansion, explosions) and dissipative effects (friction, viscosity). Irreversibility — non-equilibrium states (free expansion, explosion) aur dissipative effects (friction, viscosity) se.
  • Kelvin–Planck statement — no process can have as its sole result complete conversion of absorbed heat into work. Kelvin–Planck statement — koi process aisa nahi jiska akela result li gayi heat ka poora work mein badalna ho.
  • Clausius statement — no process can have as its sole result transfer of heat from a colder to a hotter object. Clausius statement — koi process aisa nahi jiska akela result thandi se garam cheez ko heat dena ho.
  • Carnot engine — a reversible heat engine working between two temperatures T₁ (hot) and T₂ (cold). Carnot engine — do temperatures T₁ (garam) aur T₂ (thanda) ke beech chalne wala reversible heat engine.
  • Carnot cycle — two isothermal processes joined by two adiabatic processes (Fig 11.9). Carnot cycle — do isothermal processes, do adiabatic processes se jude (Fig 11.9).
  • Heat in — Q₁ = μRT₁ ln(V₂/V₁) during isothermal expansion at T₁. Heat in — T₁ par isothermal expansion mein Q₁ = μRT₁ ln(V₂/V₁).
  • Heat out — Q₂ = μRT₂ ln(V₃/V₄) during isothermal compression at T₂. Heat out — T₂ par isothermal compression mein Q₂ = μRT₂ ln(V₃/V₄).
  • Adiabatic steps — works in 2 → 3 and 4 → 1 are equal and opposite, μR(T₁ − T₂)/(γ − 1), so they cancel. Adiabatic steps — 2 → 3 aur 4 → 1 ke works barabar aur ulte, μR(T₁ − T₂)/(γ − 1), isliye cancel.
  • Efficiency — η = W/Q₁ = 1 − Q₂/Q₁ = 1 − T₂/T₁ for a Carnot engine. Efficiency — Carnot engine ke liye η = W/Q₁ = 1 − Q₂/Q₁ = 1 − T₂/T₁.
  • Carnot’s theorem — (a) no engine between the same two temperatures is more efficient; (b) the efficiency is independent of the working substance. Carnot’s theorem — (a) same do temperatures ke beech koi engine zyada efficient nahi; (b) efficiency working substance par depend nahi.
  • Exam check — use kelvin in 1 − T₂/T₁; η is always less than 1 because some heat Q₂ must be rejected to the sink (second law). Exam check — 1 − T₂/T₁ mein kelvin lo; η hamesha 1 se kam kyunki kuch heat Q₂ sink ko deni hi padti hai (second law).
