Key points ✍️मुख्य बातें ✍️Key points ✍️
- Stoichiometry — calculation of masses (sometimes volumes) of reactants and products in a reaction; from Greek stoicheion (element) and metron (measure). Stoichiometry — reaction mein reactants aur products ke mass (kabhi volume) ki calculation; Greek stoicheion (element) aur metron (measure) se.
- Stoichiometric coefficients — the numbers before formulas; they give the molecules and moles taking part (CH₄ : O₂ = 1 : 2). Stoichiometric coefficients — formulas ke aage ke numbers; yeh participate karne wale molecules aur moles batate hain (CH₄ : O₂ = 1 : 2).
- Balancing rule — same number of atoms of each element on both sides (law of conservation of mass); never change subscripts. Balancing rule — dono taraf har element ke atoms barabar (law of conservation of mass); subscripts kabhi mat badliye.
- Balanced example — C₃H₈ + 5O₂ → 3CO₂ + 4H₂O: balance C, then H, then O (NCERT steps). Balanced example — C₃H₈ + 5O₂ → 3CO₂ + 4H₂O: pehle C, phir H, phir O balance kijiye (NCERT steps).
- Mass–mass — 16 g CH₄ → 1 mol → 2 mol H₂O → 2 × 18 = 36 g H₂O (NCERT Problem 1.3). Mass–mass — 16 g CH₄ → 1 mol → 2 mol H₂O → 2 × 18 = 36 g H₂O (NCERT Problem 1.3).
- Moles needed — 22 g CO₂ = 0.5 mol, so 0.5 mol CH₄ is required (NCERT Problem 1.4). Moles needed — 22 g CO₂ = 0.5 mol, isliye 0.5 mol CH₄ chahiye (NCERT Problem 1.4).
- Limiting reagent — the reactant present in the least amount that is consumed first and limits the amount of product formed. Limiting reagent — sabse kam maatra wala reactant jo pehle khatam hokar product ki maatra limit karta hai.
- Excess reagent — the reactant left over once the limiting reagent is used up. Excess reagent — limiting reagent khatam hone ke baad bacha hua reactant.
- Ammonia problem — 50.0 kg N₂ + 10.0 kg H₂: N₂ needs 5.36 × 10³ mol H₂, only 4.96 × 10³ mol present → H₂ limiting. Ammonia problem — 50.0 kg N₂ + 10.0 kg H₂: N₂ ko 5.36 × 10³ mol H₂ chahiye, sirf 4.96 × 10³ mol hai → H₂ limiting.
- Product from the limiting — NH₃ = 4.96 × 10³ × 2/3 = 3.30 × 10³ mol = 56.1 kg (1 mol NH₃ = 17.0 g). Limiting se product — NH₃ = 4.96 × 10³ × 2/3 = 3.30 × 10³ mol = 56.1 kg (1 mol NH₃ = 17.0 g).
- Mass per cent — (mass of solute ÷ mass of solution) × 100; 2 g A in 18 g water → 10% (NCERT Problem 1.6). Mass per cent — (solute ka mass ÷ solution ka mass) × 100; 18 g water mein 2 g A → 10% (NCERT Problem 1.6).
- Golden rule — always work in moles: grams → moles → use the mole ratio → moles → grams/litres. Golden rule — hamesha moles mein kaam kijiye: grams → moles → mole ratio → moles → grams/litres.
