Key points ✍️मुख्य बातें ✍️Key points ✍️

  • Refraction — light going obliquely from one transparent medium into another changes its direction. Refraction — ek transparent medium se doosre mein tirchhi jaati light apni direction badal deti hai.
  • Rarer → denser — light slows down and bends towards the normal; denser → rarer it speeds up and bends away. Rarer → denser — light slow hokar normal ki taraf mudti hai; denser → rarer mein tez hokar door mudti hai.
  • Emergent ∥ incident — bending at faces AB and CD is equal and opposite, so the ray comes out parallel, shifted sideward slightly. Emergent ∥ incident — AB aur CD par bending barabar aur opposite, isliye ray parallel nikalti hai, thodi side mein khiskar.
  • Law 1 — incident ray, refracted ray and normal at the point of incidence lie in the same plane. Law 1 — incident ray, refracted ray aur point of incidence par normal ek hi plane mein hote hain.
  • Law 2 (Snell's law) — sin i / sin r = constant, for light of a given colour and a given pair of media. Law 2 (Snell's law) — sin i / sin r = constant, diye gaye colour ki light aur diye gaye media pair ke liye.
  • Refractive index — n₂₁ = v₁/v₂ (speed in medium 1 / speed in medium 2); absolute nm = c/v. Refractive index — n₂₁ = v₁/v₂ (medium 1 mein speed / medium 2 mein speed); absolute nm = c/v.
  • NCERT values — air 1.0003, water 1.33, kerosene 1.44, crown glass 1.52, diamond 2.42 (no need to memorise).NCERT NCERT values — air 1.0003, water 1.33, kerosene 1.44, crown glass 1.52, diamond 2.42 (ratne ki zaroorat nahi).
  • Optical vs mass density — kerosene has a higher refractive index than water, so it is optically denser though its mass density is less. Optical vs mass density — kerosene ka refractive index water se zyada, isliye optically denser, halanki mass density kam.
  • Speed of light — in vacuum, 3 × 10⁸ m s⁻¹. Speed of light — vacuum mein 3 × 10⁸ m s⁻¹.
  • Mirror formula — 1/v + 1/u = 1/f · m = h′/h = −v/u.दर्पण सूत्र — 1/v + 1/u = 1/f · m = h′/h = −v/u।Mirror formula — 1/v + 1/u = 1/f · m = h′/h = −v/u.
  • Lens formula — 1/v − 1/u = 1/f · m = h′/h = v/u (distances from the optical centre O). Lens formula — 1/v − 1/u = 1/f · m = h′/h = v/u (distances optical centre O se).
  • Power — P = 1/f (f in metres); unit dioptre D, 1 D = 1 m⁻¹; convex +, concave −. +2.0 D means convex, f = +0.50 m. Power — P = 1/f (f metre mein); unit dioptre D, 1 D = 1 m⁻¹; convex +, concave −. +2.0 D matlab convex, f = +0.50 m.
