Key points ✍️मुख्य बातें ✍️Key points ✍️
- Not in five kingdoms — viruses are not considered truly living if living means having a cell structure; they are non-cellular. Five kingdom se bahar — agar living ka matlab cell structure hai, to viruses sach mein living nahi maane jaate; woh non-cellular hain.
- Inert outside, active inside — an inert crystalline structure outside the living cell; inside, it takes over the host's machinery to replicate, killing the host. Bahar inert, andar active — living cell ke bahar inert crystalline; andar host ki machinery le kar apni copies banata hai aur host ko maar deta hai.
- Obligate parasites — viruses are inert outside their specific host cell. "Virus" means venom or poisonous fluid. Obligate parasites — viruses apni specific host cell ke bahar inert. "Virus" ka matlab venom ya poisonous fluid.
- Ivanowsky (1892) — found the cause of mosaic disease of tobacco; smaller than bacteria, since they passed through bacteria-proof filters. Ivanowsky (1892) — tobacco ke mosaic disease ka cause pehchana; yeh bacteria se chhote the, kyunki bacteria-proof filters se nikal gaye.
- Beijerinck (1898) — extract of infected tobacco infected healthy plants; he named it "virus" and called the fluid Contagium vivum fluidum (infectious living fluid). Beijerinck (1898) — infected tobacco ke extract se healthy plants infect hue; unhone "virus" naam diya aur fluid ko Contagium vivum fluidum (infectious living fluid) kaha.
- Stanley (1935) — showed viruses could be crystallised; the crystals consist largely of proteins. Stanley (1935) — dikhaya ki viruses crystallise ho sakte hain; crystals mostly proteins ke hote hain.
- Nucleoprotein — protein + genetic material (RNA or DNA, never both); the genetic material is infectious. Nucleoprotein — protein + genetic material (RNA ya DNA, dono kabhi nahi); genetic material infectious hota hai.
- Who has what — plant viruses: ssRNA · animal viruses: ss or dsRNA, or dsDNA · bacteriophages: usually dsDNA. Kisme kya — plant viruses: ssRNA · animal viruses: ss ya dsRNA, ya dsDNA · bacteriophages: aam taur par dsDNA.
- Capsid shapes — capsomeres are arranged in helical (TMV) or polyhedral geometric forms. Capsid ke shapes — capsomeres helical (TMV) ya polyhedral geometric forms mein lage hote hain.
- Diseases — mumps, small pox, herpes, influenza and AIDS. In plants: mosaic formation, leaf rolling and curling, yellowing, vein clearing, dwarfing, stunted growth. Diseases — mumps, small pox, herpes, influenza aur AIDS. Plants mein: mosaic, leaf rolling-curling, yellowing, vein clearing, dwarfing, stunted growth.
- Viroids — T.O. Diener (1971): potato spindle tuber disease. Free RNA with no protein coat, of low molecular weight. ओ. Viroids — T.O. Diener (1971): potato spindle tuber disease. Protein coat ke bina free RNA, low molecular weight ka.
- Prions — abnormally folded protein, similar in size to viruses. Cause BSE (mad cow disease) in cattle and CJD in humans. Prions — abnormally folded protein, size mein virus jaisa. Cattle mein BSE (mad cow disease) aur insaanon mein CJD.
- Lichens — symbiotic algae (phycobiont, autotrophic) + fungi (mycobiont, heterotrophic). Very good pollution indicators: they do not grow in polluted areas. Lichens — algae (phycobiont, autotrophic) + fungi (mycobiont, heterotrophic) ka symbiosis. Bahut achhe pollution indicators: polluted areas mein nahi ugte.
