Introduction
In everyday English, two things are "related" if there is a link between them. If A is the set of Class XII students and B the set of Class XI students of a school, then \{(a, b) \in A \times B : a \text{ is brother of } b\} is a relation from A to B.रोज़ की भाषा में दो चीज़ें "संबंधित" होती हैं यदि उनके बीच कोई कड़ी हो। यदि A किसी विद्यालय की कक्षा XII के विद्यार्थियों का और B कक्षा XI के विद्यार्थियों का समुच्चय हो, तो \{(a, b) \in A \times B : a,\ b \text{ का भाई है}\}, A से B में एक संबंध है।Rozana ki bhasha mein do cheezein "related" hoti hain agar unke beech koi link ho. Agar A kisi school ki Class XII ke students ka aur B Class XI ke students ka set ho, to \{(a, b) \in A \times B : a \text{ is brother of } b\}, A se B mein ek relation hai."Related" means there is a link. Pairs (a, b) where a is the brother of b form a relation from A to B.
Relations ke types
A relation in a set A means a subset of A \times A. The two extreme cases are the empty set \varphi and the whole of A \times A. For A = \{1, 2, 3, 4\}, the relation R = \{(a, b) : a - b = 10\} is empty (no pair has difference 10), and R' = \{(a, b) : |a - b| \ge 0\} is all of A \times A.समुच्चय A में संबंध का अर्थ है A \times A का उपसमुच्चय। R = \{(a, b) : a - b = 10\} रिक्त है (किसी युग्म का अंतर 10 नहीं), और R' = \{(a, b) : |a - b| \ge 0\} पूरा A \times A है।Set A mein relation ka matlab hai A \times A ka subset. Do extreme cases hain: empty set \varphi aur poora A \times A. A = \{1, 2, 3, 4\} ke liye R = \{(a, b) : a - b = 10\} empty hai (kisi pair ka difference 10 nahi), aur R' = \{(a, b) : |a - b| \ge 0\} poora A \times A hai.A relation in A uses pairs from A × A. It can be empty, or it can be all pairs.
Both the empty relation and the universal relation are sometimes called trivial relations. Empty relation aur universal relation dono ko kabhi-kabhi trivial relations bhi kehte hain. These two extreme relations are called trivial relations.

Ye boys school hai, isliye koi bhi student kisi student ki sister nahi ho sakta. R mein koi pair nahi.R = \varphi
- Any two students differ in height by less than 3 m, so every pair is in R′. Kinhi bhi do students ki height ka difference 3 m se kam hi hoga, isliye har pair R′ mein hai.R' = A \times A
✔ R is the empty relation and R′ is the universal relation.R R empty relation hai aur R′ universal relation hai.
Notation. A relation in \{1, 2, 3, 4\} given by R = \{(a, b) : b = a + 1\} is also written as "a\,R\,b if and only if b = a + 1". Now we study the three most important properties a relation can have. R = \{(a, b) : b = a + 1\} द्वारा प्रदत्त संबंध को "a\,R\,b यदि और केवल यदि b = a + 1" भी लिखते हैं। Notation. \{1, 2, 3, 4\} mein R = \{(a, b) : b = a + 1\} ko "a\,R\,b agar aur sirf agar b = a + 1" bhi likhte hain. Ab hum relation ke teen sabse important gun padhte hain.We can write a R b instead of (a, b) ∈ R. Next: three key properties.
