Parts and their functions

• Seed coat + fruit wall (fused) (बीजावरण + फलभित्ति (संयुक्त)) — A maize "seed" is really a grain whose thin fruit wall is fused with the seed coat.
• Aleurone layer (एल्यूरोन परत) — Protein-rich outer layer of the endosperm.
• Endosperm (भ्रूणपोष) — Persists in the mature seed — ALBUMINOUS seed (wheat, maize, barley, castor). Used during germination.
• Scutellum (स्कूटेलम) — The single cotyledon of the grass embryo; absorbs food from the endosperm.
• Coleoptile (प्रांकुर चोल) — Sheath protecting the plumule.
• Plumule (प्रांकुर) — Shoot tip (inside coleoptile).
• Radicle (मूलांकुर) — Root tip (inside coleorrhiza).
• Coleorrhiza (मूलांकुर चोल) — Sheath protecting the radicle.
