NCERT Fig 5.8 · Class 12 Biology · Chapter 5 · interactive diagram
Parts and their functions
- Parental DNA (जनक डीएनए) — Double helix still to be opened.
- Replication fork (प्रतिकृति द्विशाख) — Small opening of the helix where replication happens.
- Template strand 3′→5′ (साँचा रज्जुक 3′→5′) — Copied continuously.
- Template strand 5′→3′ (साँचा रज्जुक 5′→3′) — Copied discontinuously.
- Leading strand (अग्रग रज्जुक) — New strand made continuously towards the fork, 5′→3′.
- Lagging strand (Okazaki fragments) (पश्चगामी रज्जुक (ओकाज़ाकी खंड)) — Made in short pieces, 5′→3′, away from the fork.
- DNA ligase (डीएनए लाइगेज़) — Joins the discontinuously made fragments.
- DNA-dependent DNA polymerase (डीएनए-आश्रित डीएनए पॉलीमरेज़) — Adds nucleotides only 5′→3′; ~2000 bp/s in E. coli.
