Parts and what they mean
- Point source (बिंदु स्रोत) — Sends waves equally in all directions.
- Spherical wavefront (गोलीय तरंगाग्र) — All points on a sphere around the source are at the same distance, so they oscillate in phase — a surface of constant phase.
- Rays (radial) (किरणें (त्रिज्य)) — Energy travels perpendicular to the wavefront, so rays point straight out from the source.
- Plane wavefront (समतल तरंगाग्र) — Far from the source a small part of a huge sphere is practically flat — e.g. light from the Sun or a distant star.
- Parallel rays (समांतर किरणें) — For a plane wavefront all rays are parallel (and perpendicular to the wavefront).
