Parts and what they mean
- Coherent sources S₁, S₂ (कला-संबद्ध स्रोत S₁, S₂) — Like two needles moving up and down together in water: the phase difference between their waves at any point does not change with time.
- Separation d (दूरी d) — Distance between the two sources.
- Crests and troughs (शृंग और गर्त) — Solid circles = crests, dashed = troughs, at one instant.
- Antinodal lines (constructive) (प्रस्पंद रेखाएँ (संपोषी)) — Points where S₁P ~ S₂P = 0, λ, 2λ, … — waves arrive in phase, amplitude 2a, intensity 4I₀. Computed curves (hyperbolas).
- Nodal lines (destructive) (निस्पंद रेखाएँ (विनाशी)) — Points where S₁P ~ S₂P = λ/2, 3λ/2, … — crest meets trough, displacement zero.
- Point P on the bisector (समद्विभाजक पर बिंदु P) — S₁P = S₂P, so waves arrive in phase: y = 2a cos ωt, I = 4I₀.
