Parts and what they mean

• Plane wavefront F₁F₂ at t = 0 (t = 0 पर समतल तरंगाग्र F₁F₂) — All points on it oscillate in phase.
• Points acting as sources (स्रोत की तरह कार्य करते बिंदु) — Each point sends out a secondary wavelet.
• Secondary wavelets (forward halves) (द्वितीयक तरंगिकाएँ (आगे का भाग)) — Hemispheres of radius vτ; the backward halves (dashed) give no wave.
• Distance moved vτ (तय दूरी vτ) — In time τ the wavefront moves forward by vτ.
• New wavefront G₁G₂ at t = τ (t = τ पर नया तरंगाग्र G₁G₂) — Common tangent to the wavelets — again a plane, parallel to F₁F₂.
• Rays A₁A₂, B₁B₂ (किरणें A₁A₂, B₁B₂) — Normal to both wavefronts; they show the direction the energy travels.
