Parts and what they mean
- p-side → battery − (p-ओर → बैटरी −) — Reverse bias: the p-side is joined to the negative terminal.
- n-side → battery + (n-ओर → बैटरी +) — The n-side is joined to the positive terminal.
- Battery (reverse) (बैटरी (पश्चदिशिक)) — Its voltage is in the same direction as the barrier potential, so the barrier height becomes V0 + V.
- Depletion region — wider (अवक्षय क्षेत्र — चौड़ा) — Reverse bias widens the depletion region.
- Fixed ions (स्थिर आयन) — More ions are uncovered as majority carriers are pulled away.
- (a) Circuit ((a) परिपथ) — Diode under reverse bias.
- (b) Barrier potential ((b) विभव प्राचीर) — Potential across the junction with and without reverse bias.
- No bias: V0 (बिना बायस: V0) — Equilibrium barrier.
- Reverse bias: V0 + V (पश्चदिशिक बायस: V0 + V) — Higher barrier: diffusion of electrons n → p and holes p → n is suppressed enormously. Only the small drift of minority carriers (µA) remains.
- Holes (होल) — Pulled away from the junction towards the negative terminal.
- Electrons (इलेक्ट्रॉन) — Pulled away from the junction towards the positive terminal.
