Parts and what they mean
- Transformer (ट्रांसफ़ॉर्मर) — Its secondary supplies the desired ac voltage between A and B.
- ac input (mains) (ac इनपुट (मेन्स)) — Applied to the primary coil.
- Terminal A (टर्मिनल A) — When A is positive the diode is forward biased and conducts.
- Terminal B (टर्मिनल B) — The other end of the secondary.
- (a) Diode ((a) डायोड) — Conducts only in the positive half-cycles at A. Its reverse breakdown voltage must be well above the peak ac voltage of the secondary.
- Load resistor RL (लोड प्रतिरोधक RL) — Current flows through it only in the positive half-cycles.
- Output across RL (RL के पार आउटपुट) — Pulsating, but in one direction only: rectified.
- Connecting wires (संयोजक तार) — Series circuit: secondary, diode, RL.
- (b) Input ac voltage at A ((b) A पर इनपुट ac वोल्टता) — Alternates between + and − every half-cycle.
- Output voltage (आउटपुट वोल्टता) — Only the positive halves remain (reverse saturation current ≈ 0). For 50 Hz input the output repeats at 50 Hz.
