Parts and what they mean
- Centre-tap transformer (केंद्र-निष्कासित ट्रांसफ़ॉर्मर) — The secondary has a tapping at its midpoint. Each diode gets only half the total secondary voltage.
- ac input (ac इनपुट) — Applied to the primary.
- End A of the secondary (द्वितीयक का सिरा A) — Connected to the p-side of D1.
- End B of the secondary (द्वितीयक का सिरा B) — Connected to the p-side of D2. Its voltage is always opposite in phase to A (relative to the centre tap).
- Centre tap (केंद्र-टैप) — The midpoint of the secondary: one output terminal.
- Diode D1 (डायोड D1) — Forward biased when A is positive with respect to the centre tap: conducts in the positive half-cycle.
- Diode D2 (डायोड D2) — Forward biased when B is positive: conducts in the other half-cycle.
- Common point X (n-sides joined) (उभयनिष्ठ बिंदु X (n-ओर जुड़े)) — The n-sides of both diodes are joined here; output is taken between X and the centre tap.
- Load resistor RL (लोड प्रतिरोधक RL) — Gets current in BOTH half-cycles, always in the same direction.
- Current through RL (RL में धारा) — From X towards the centre tap in both halves of the cycle.
- Wires (तार) — p-sides of D1, D2 to the ends A, B; n-sides joined at X.
- Filter capacitor C (parallel to RL) (फ़िल्टर संधारित्र C (RL के समांतर)) — Charges while the rectified voltage rises; without a load it would stay at the peak. With RL it discharges slowly through the load until the next pulse recharges it.
- Rectified pulses (without filter) (दिष्टकृत स्पंद (बिना फ़िल्टर)) — Unidirectional but not steady.
- (b) Output with capacitor ((b) संधारित्र सहित आउटपुट) — Stays near the peak voltage. The fall between peaks depends inversely on the time constant CRL; a large C gives a smoother dc.
- Ripple (उर्मिका (रिपल)) — The small remaining ac variation. Capacitor-input filters are the most widely used in power supplies.
