Parts and what they mean
- (a) p-region of the diode ((a) डायोड का p-क्षेत्र) — A semiconductor diode is basically a p-n junction with metallic contacts at the ends: a two-terminal device.
- n-region (n-क्षेत्र) — The other side of the junction.
- Metallic contact (धात्विक संपर्क) — Lets an external voltage be applied across the junction.
- Terminal (टर्मिनल) — One of the two leads.
- (b) Diode symbol ((b) डायोड का प्रतीक) — Triangle on the p-side, bar on the n-side.
- p-side (anode) (p-ओर (ऐनोड)) — Current enters here in forward bias.
- n-side (cathode, the bar) (n-ओर (कैथोड, रेखा)) — Current leaves here in forward bias.
- Direction of the arrow (तीर की दिशा) — The arrow of the symbol shows the conventional current direction when the diode is forward biased (p → n).
