Parts and what they mean
- Each atom has 4 nearest neighbours (हर परमाणु के 4 निकटतम पड़ोसी) — The gold atom bonds to 4 neighbours at the corners of a regular tetrahedron (bond angle 109.5°). It shares one valence electron with each neighbour.
- The 4 covalent bonds of one atom (एक परमाणु के 4 सहसंयोजक आबंध) — Bond length = a√3/4: 2.35 Å for Si.
- Covalent (valence) bond (सहसंयोजक (संयोजकता) आबंध) — A pair of electrons shared by two neighbouring atoms.
- Atom on a corner or face of the cube (घन के कोने या फलक पर परमाणु) — All atoms are the same element (C, Si or Ge); colours only show the two interpenetrating sets of sites.
- Atom inside the cube (घन के भीतर परमाणु) — Sits a quarter of the way along a body diagonal from a corner atom.
- Lattice spacing a (जालक अंतराल a) — Edge of the cubic cell: 3.56 Å (C), 5.43 Å (Si), 5.66 Å (Ge). For Si, 8 atoms per a³ gives 5 × 10²⁸ atoms m⁻³.
- Cubic unit cell (घनीय एकक सेल) — The repeating cube of the crystal.
