Parts and what they mean
- Concave N pole piece (अवतल N ध्रुव खंड) — Seen from above.
- Concave S pole piece (अवतल S ध्रुव खंड) — Seen from above.
- Radial magnetic field (त्रिज्य चुंबकीय क्षेत्र) — In the gap B points along radii (towards the core on the N side, away on the S side).
- Soft-iron core (नर्म लोहे का क्रोड) — Concentrates the lines and makes them radial.
- Coil (seen from above) (कुंडली (ऊपर से)) — Whatever its angle, its plane contains the radial B, so sin θ = 1 (m ⊥ B).
- Coil side: current out of the page (कुंडली की भुजा: धारा पृष्ठ से बाहर) — Force on it is perpendicular to the radius.
- Coil side: current into the page (कुंडली की भुजा: धारा पृष्ठ के अंदर) — Force opposite to the other side — a couple.
- Force on one side (एक भुजा पर बल) — Equal and opposite forces form a couple of torque NIAB.
- Force on the other side (दूसरी भुजा पर बल) — Opposite direction.
