Parts and what they mean
- Caesium line (सीज़ियम की रेखा) — V0 = (h/e)ν − φ0/e with φ0 = 2.14 eV; starts at ν0 ≈ 5.2 × 10¹⁴ Hz.
- Sodium line (सोडियम की रेखा) — φ0 = 2.75 eV, so it starts at a higher ν0 ≈ 6.6 × 10¹⁴ Hz; parallel to the caesium line.
- Threshold frequency ν0 (caesium) (देहली आवृत्ति ν0 (सीज़ियम)) — Where V0 = 0: ν0 = φ0/h. Below it there is no emission, however intense the light.
- Threshold frequency ν0 (sodium) (देहली आवृत्ति ν0 (सोडियम)) — Larger work function → larger threshold frequency.
- Slope = h/e (ढाल = h/e) — About 4.14 × 10⁻¹⁵ V s for every metal — Millikan used this slope to measure h.
- Intercept −φ0/e (अंतःखंड −φ0/e) — Extending the line back to ν = 0 meets the V0-axis at −φ0/e (−2.14 V for caesium). Only the solid part is measurable.
- Intercept −φ0/e (sodium) (अंतःखंड −φ0/e (सोडियम)) — −2.75 V for sodium.
- Frequency ν (आवृत्ति ν) — Frequency of incident radiation, in units of 10¹⁴ Hz.
- Stopping potential V0 (निरोधी विभव V0) — In volts; eV0 = Kmax.
