Isotopes, isobars and isotonesसमस्थानिक, समभारिक और समन्यूट्रॉनिकIsotopes, isobars and isotones
NCERT Section 13.2 · Class 12 Physics · Chapter 13 · interactive diagram
Parts and what they mean
- Isotopes (same Z) (समस्थानिक (समान Z)) — ¹H, ²H (deuterium), ³H (tritium): same number of protons, different neutrons → same chemistry, different mass.
- Isobars (same A) (समभारिक (समान A)) — ³H and ³He (NCERT’s example): same mass number A = 3, different elements.
- Isotones (same N) (समन्यूट्रॉनिक (समान N)) — ²H and ³He both have N = 1. NCERT’s example: ¹⁹⁸Hg and ¹⁹⁷Au both have N = 118.
