Nuclear fission of uranium-235यूरेनियम-235 का नाभिकीय विखंडनNuclear fission of uranium-235
NCERT Eq. 13.10 · Class 12 Physics · Chapter 13 · interactive diagram
Parts and what they mean
- Neutron (bullet) (न्यूट्रॉन (गोली)) — Being neutral, a neutron is not repelled by the nucleus and can enter it easily.
- Uranium-235 (यूरेनियम-235) — 92 protons + 143 neutrons. Absorbs the neutron.
- Compound nucleus ²³⁶U (यौगिक नाभिक ²³⁶U) — Very unstable; it deforms and splits into two middle-mass fragments.
- Barium-144 fragment (बेरियम-144 खंड) — Z = 56. Fission fragments are radioactive and emit β-particles one after another until stable.
- Krypton-89 fragment (क्रिप्टॉन-89 खंड) — Z = 36. Check: 56 + 36 = 92 protons; 144 + 89 + 3 = 236 nucleons.
- Three new neutrons (तीन नए न्यूट्रॉन) — These can cause more fissions — the basis of a chain reaction in reactors and bombs.
- Energy released (मुक्त ऊर्जा) — About 200 MeV per fission, first as kinetic energy of the fragments and neutrons, finally as heat.
