Parts and what they mean
- The Sun (सूर्य) — An important source of UV, visible and infrared radiation.
- Ozone layer (≈ 40–50 km up) (ओज़ोन परत (≈ 40–50 km ऊँचाई)) — Absorbs most of the Sun’s UV. Its depletion by CFCs (e.g. freon) is an international concern.
- Ultraviolet from the Sun (सूर्य से पराबैंगनी) — Mostly absorbed by ozone; large doses harm humans (sunburn, tanning via melanin).
- Visible light (दृश्य प्रकाश) — Passes relatively easily through the atmosphere and is absorbed by Earth’s surface.
- Infrared re-radiated by the ground (ज़मीन से पुनः उत्सर्जित अवरक्त) — The warm surface re-radiates longer-wavelength infrared, which greenhouse gases trap: the greenhouse effect.
- Greenhouse gases (CO₂, water vapour) (ग्रीनहाउस गैसें (CO₂, जलवाष्प)) — Absorb infrared and keep the Earth’s average temperature up.
- Earth’s surface (पृथ्वी की सतह) — Absorbs visible light and warms up.
