Parts and what they mean
- Sample space S (प्रतिदर्श समष्टि S) — All outcomes of the experiment. Before any information, probabilities are shares of S.
- Event A (घटना A) — The event whose chance we want. Its part outside B no longer matters once B is given.
- Event B — the given event (घटना B — दी गई घटना) — We know B has happened, so B becomes the new sample space. We divide by P(B).
- A ∩ B (A ∩ B) — The part of B where A also happens — the favourable part. P(A|B) is this green piece as a share of the whole orange circle.
- Conditional probability (सप्रतिबंध प्रायिकता) — P(A|B) = \dfrac{P(A \cap B)}{P(B)}, provided P(B) \ne 0.
