NCERT Fig 6.5 · Class 12 Biology · Chapter 6 · interactive diagram
Parts and their functions
- Ancestral seed-eating finch (पूर्वज बीज खाने वाली फिंच) — The original finches on the island ate seeds. All other kinds evolved from this stock on the island itself.
- Seed-eating finch (large beak) (बीज खाने वाली फिंच (बड़ी चोंच)) — Kept the seed-eating habit; a strong, deep beak cracks seeds.
- Insectivorous finch (कीटभक्षी फिंच) — Beak became thin and pointed — good for picking insects.
- Vegetarian finch (शाकाहारी फिंच) — Beak became stout and curved — good for buds and fruits.
Steps
- 1 · One ancestral seed-eating finch reached the island.
- 2 · Its descendants radiated into different habitats; beaks changed with food → many kinds of finches.
