Embryo development in a dicot (embryogeny)द्विबीजपत्री में भ्रूण विकास
NCERT Fig 1.13b · Class 12 Biology · Chapter 1 · interactive diagram
Parts and their functions
- Zygote (युग्मनज) — At the micropylar end of the embryo sac. Most zygotes divide only after some endosperm has formed — an adaptation for assured nutrition.
- Proembryo (पूर्वभ्रूण) — First few cells formed from the zygote.
- Globular embryo (गोलाकार भ्रूण) — A ball of cells.
- Heart-shaped embryo (हृदयाकार भ्रूण) — The two cotyledons start growing — heart shape.
- Mature embryo (परिपक्व भ्रूण) — Embryonal axis + two cotyledons (dicot).
- Endosperm (भ्रूणपोष) — Develops before the embryo and feeds it.
- Embryo sac (भ्रूणकोश) — The embryo develops at its micropylar end.
Steps
- Zygote (2n) at the micropylar end; endosperm forms first.
- Proembryo.
- Globular embryo.
- Heart-shaped embryo.
- Mature embryo. (Early stages are similar in monocots and dicots.)
