Parts and their functions
- Sunlight: 1,000,000 J (सूर्य प्रकाश: 10,00,000 J) — Energy of sunlight available to the producers.
- Primary producers: 10,000 J (प्राथमिक उत्पादक: 10,000 J) — Producers convert only 1% of the sunlight available to them into NPP.
- Primary consumers: 1000 J (प्राथमिक उपभोक्ता: 1000 J) — 10% of the level below (10 per cent law).
- Secondary consumers: 100 J (द्वितीयक उपभोक्ता: 100 J) — 10% again; the rest is lost as heat.
- Tertiary consumers: 10 J (तृतीयक उपभोक्ता: 10 J) — Least energy at the top. An energy pyramid can NEVER be inverted, because some energy is always lost as heat at each step.
