Parts and their functions
- Cotyledons (2) (बीजपत्र (2)) — Two seed leaves attached to the embryonal axis; often thick and swollen with stored food (as in legumes).
- Epicotyl (बीजपत्रोपरिक) — Part of the embryonal axis ABOVE the level of the cotyledons; ends in the plumule.
- Plumule (प्रांकुर) — The stem tip at the end of the epicotyl — forms the shoot.
- Hypocotyl (बीजपत्राधार) — Cylindrical part of the axis BELOW the cotyledons; ends at its lower end in the radicle.
- Radicle (मूलांकुर) — The root tip — forms the root.
- Root cap (मूल गोप) — Covers and protects the root tip.
- Embryonal axis (भ्रूणीय अक्ष) — The main axis: epicotyl + plumule above, hypocotyl + radicle below.
