Parts and what they mean
- R₂ — conductivity cell (unknown resistance) (R₂ — चालकता सेल (अज्ञात प्रतिरोध)) — The solution in the conductivity cell is the unknown resistance.
- R₁ — variable resistance (R₁ — परिवर्ती प्रतिरोध) — Adjusted until the detector shows no current (bridge balanced).
- R₃ — fixed resistance (R₃ — स्थिर प्रतिरोध) — Known resistance.
- R₄ — fixed resistance (R₄ — स्थिर प्रतिरोध) — Known resistance.
- P — detector (headphone or electronic device) (P — संसूचक (हेडफ़ोन या इलेक्ट्रॉनिक युक्ति)) — Bridge is balanced when no current passes through P.
- O — oscillator (AC source, 550–5000 Hz) (O — दोलित्र (AC स्रोत, 550–5000 Hz)) — AC is used because DC would change the composition of the solution by electrolysis.
- Balance condition (संतुलन शर्त) — R₂ = R₁R₄/R₃. Then κ = G*/R.
