Parts and what they mean
- Gaseous solutions (गैसीय विलयन) — Solvent is a gas. The solution is a gas.
- Liquid solutions (द्रव विलयन) — Solvent is a liquid — the most common kind (all aqueous solutions).
- Solid solutions (ठोस विलयन) — Solvent is a solid, e.g. alloys like copper dissolved in gold.
- Gas in gas: mixture of O₂ and N₂ (गैस में गैस: ऑक्सीजन व नाइट्रोजन का मिश्रण) — NCERT example: mixture of oxygen and nitrogen gases.
- Liquid in gas: chloroform mixed with N₂ (गैस में द्रव: नाइट्रोजन में क्लोरोफ़ॉर्म) — Solute liquid, solvent gas: chloroform vapour mixed with nitrogen gas.
- Solid in gas: camphor in N₂ (गैस में ठोस: नाइट्रोजन में कपूर) — Solute solid, solvent gas: camphor in nitrogen gas.
- Gas in liquid: O₂ dissolved in water (द्रव में गैस: जल में घुली ऑक्सीजन) — Fish breathe this dissolved oxygen.
- Liquid in liquid: ethanol in water (द्रव में द्रव: जल में एथेनॉल) — Two liquids that mix completely.
- Solid in liquid: glucose in water (द्रव में ठोस: जल में ग्लूकोज़) — The most familiar type — sugar or salt in water.
- Gas in solid: H₂ in palladium (ठोस में गैस: पैलेडियम में हाइड्रोजन) — Palladium metal absorbs hydrogen gas.
- Liquid in solid: amalgam of mercury with sodium (ठोस में द्रव: सोडियम के साथ पारे का अमलगम) — Mercury (liquid) dissolved in sodium (solid).
- Solid in solid: copper dissolved in gold (ठोस में ठोस: सोने में घुला ताँबा) — Alloys are solid solutions.
