Parts and what they mean
- Platinum electrode coated with platinum black (प्लैटिनम ब्लैक से लेपित प्लैटिनम इलेक्ट्रोड) — Inert: it takes no part in the reaction, it only provides a surface. Represented Pt(s) | H₂(g) | H⁺(aq).
- Pure H₂ gas at 1 bar (1 bar पर शुद्ध H₂ गैस) — Bubbled through the solution so that the reduced form (H₂) is at unit concentration.
- Acidic solution, [H⁺] = 1 M (अम्लीय विलयन, [H⁺] = 1 M) — The oxidised form (H⁺) at unit concentration.
- Hydrogen bubbles at the Pt surface (Pt सतह पर हाइड्रोजन के बुलबुले) — Half-reaction: H⁺(aq) + e⁻ → ½H₂(g). Its potential is assigned ZERO at all temperatures.
- Glass tube with gas inlet (गैस प्रवेश वाली काँच की नली) — Keeps H₂ around the platinum foil.
