Parts and what they mean
- Applied pressure = osmotic pressure (π) (लगाया दाब = परासरण दाब (π)) — The excess pressure that must be applied on the solution side to just stop the flow of solvent into it. π = CRT.
- Semipermeable membrane (अर्धपारगम्य झिल्ली) — Only solvent molecules can pass.
- Pure solvent (शुद्ध विलायक) — Would normally flow into the solution.
- Solution (विलयन) — Its osmotic pressure depends only on the number of solute particles (colligative).
- No net flow (कोई शुद्ध प्रवाह नहीं) — At exactly π, solvent goes both ways equally — osmosis is stopped.
- Container (पात्र) — Two compartments separated by the SPM.
