Parts and what they mean
- Lead — anode (−) (लेड — ऐनोड (−)) — Discharge: Pb(s) + SO₄²⁻(aq) → PbSO₄(s) + 2e⁻.
- Lead grid packed with PbO₂ — cathode (+) (PbO₂ से भरी लेड जाली — कैथोड (+)) — Discharge: PbO₂(s) + SO₄²⁻(aq) + 4H⁺(aq) + 2e⁻ → PbSO₄(s) + 2H₂O(l).
- 38% sulphuric acid — electrolyte (38% सल्फ़्यूरिक अम्ल — विद्युत-अपघट्य) — Overall: Pb + PbO₂ + 2H₂SO₄ → 2PbSO₄ + 2H₂O. On charging the reaction is reversed: PbSO₄ on the anode and cathode becomes Pb and PbO₂. Used in automobiles and inverters.
