Parts and what they mean
- Pt(IV) (Pt(IV)) — x + 2(−1) + 0 = +2 → x = +4. Octahedral, CN 6.
- Cl⁻ (chlorido) (Cl⁻ (क्लोरिडो)) — cis (90°) in the top pair, trans (180°) in the bottom one.
- N donor of en (en का N दाता) — Two N per en.
- en chelate (en कीलेट) — Ethane-1,2-diamine spanning two adjacent positions.
- Mirror plane (दर्पण तल) — The two cis structures are mirror images.
- cis isomer, one enantiomer (समपक्ष समावयव, एक प्रतिबिंब रूप) — Chiral: no mirror plane, no centre of symmetry.
- cis isomer, the other enantiomer (समपक्ष समावयव, दूसरा प्रतिबिंब रूप) — NCERT: only the cis isomer of [PtCl₂(en)₂]²⁺ shows optical activity.
- trans isomer — optically inactive (विपक्ष समावयव — ध्रुवण अघूर्णक) — Has a centre of symmetry, so its mirror image is the same ion.
