Parts and what they mean
- d(x²−y²) — eg (d(x²−y²) — eg) — Lobes lie along the x and y axes, right where four ligands approach → more repulsion → higher energy.
- d(z²) — eg (d(z²) — eg) — Lobes along the z axis point at the two axial ligands → raised in energy.
- d(xy) — t2g (d(xy) — t2g) — Lobes lie between the x and y axes, away from the ligands → lowered.
- d(yz) — t2g (d(yz) — t2g) — Between the y and z axes → lowered.
- d(xz) — t2g (d(xz) — t2g) — Between the x and z axes → lowered.
