Parts and what they mean
- α-D-Glucose unit I (α-D-ग्लूकोस इकाई I) — Its C-1 (α) forms the glycosidic bond.
- α-D-Glucose unit II (α-D-ग्लूकोस इकाई II) — Its C-4 receives the bond; its own C-1 stays free.
- α-(1→4) glycosidic bond (α-(1→4) ग्लाइकोसाइडी बंध) — C-1 of one α-D-glucose is linked to C-4 of another α-D-glucose through oxygen.
- Free aldehyde possible at C-1 of unit II (इकाई II के C-1 पर मुक्त ऐल्डिहाइड संभव) — This hemiacetal can open in solution to give a free –CHO group, so maltose shows reducing properties.
