Parts and what they mean
- β-D-Galactose unit (β-D-गैलैक्टोस इकाई) — Like glucose except at C-4. Its β C-1 makes the glycosidic bond.
- C-4 of galactose: –OH up (गैलैक्टोस का C-4: –OH ऊपर) — In glucose the C-4 –OH is down; in galactose it is up. This single difference makes a different sugar.
- β-D-Glucose unit (turned over) (β-D-ग्लूकोस इकाई (पलटी हुई)) — Drawn upside-down so its C-4 can meet the bridge: every group swaps up/down and the ring O comes to the front.
- β-(1→4) glycosidic bond (β-(1→4) ग्लाइकोसाइडी बंध) — C-1 of β-D-galactose to C-4 of β-D-glucose.
- Free anomeric C-1 of glucose (ग्लूकोस का मुक्त ऐनोमरी C-1) — Lactose (milk sugar) is a reducing sugar.
