Parts and what they mean
- Polypeptide backbone (–CO–NH–CHR–)ₙ (पॉलिपेप्टाइड आधार (–CO–NH–CHR–)ₙ) — The chain twists like a screw so that it can form all possible hydrogen bonds. Darker = nearer to you.
- Hydrogen bond between >C=O and –NH– (>C=O और –NH– के बीच हाइड्रोजन बंध) — The –NH group of each amino acid residue is hydrogen bonded to the >C=O of an adjacent turn of the helix.
- Amino acid residue (ऐमीनो अम्ल अवशेष) — Each dot is one amino acid unit in the chain; side chains (R) point outward.
- Right-handed helix (दक्षिणावर्ती हेलिक्स) — Twists like an ordinary (right-handed) screw: the near strands rise from lower left to upper right.
- Helix axis (हेलिक्स अक्ष) — α-Helix is one of the two common secondary structures (the other is the β-pleated sheet).
