Parts and what they mean
- α-D-(+)-Glucopyranose (α-D-(+)-ग्लूकोपाइरैनोस) — Six-membered ring (5 C + 1 O). The anomeric –OH at C-1 is below the ring, trans to CH₂OH.
- β-D-(+)-Glucopyranose (β-D-(+)-ग्लूकोपाइरैनोस) — Identical to α except at C-1: here the –OH is above the ring, on the same side as CH₂OH.
- α: –OH on C-1 points down (α: C-1 पर –OH नीचे) — Rule for D-sugars in Haworth: anomeric –OH opposite to the CH₂OH group → α.
- β: –OH on C-1 points up (β: C-1 पर –OH ऊपर) — Anomeric –OH on the same side as CH₂OH → β.
- H on C-1 (α) (C-1 पर H (α)) — In α the H on C-1 is up.
- H on C-1 (β) (C-1 पर H (β)) — In β the H on C-1 is down.
- C-1 = anomeric carbon (C-1 = ऐनोमरी कार्बन) — The aldehyde carbon before cyclisation. α and β differ ONLY here, so they are called anomers.
- –OH on C-2 (down) (C-2 पर –OH (नीचे)) — Right in Fischer → down in Haworth.
- –OH on C-2 (down) (C-2 पर –OH (नीचे)) — Right in Fischer → down in Haworth.
- –OH on C-3 (up) (C-3 पर –OH (ऊपर)) — Left in Fischer → up in Haworth.
- –OH on C-3 (up) (C-3 पर –OH (ऊपर)) — Left in Fischer → up in Haworth.
- –OH on C-4 (down) (C-4 पर –OH (नीचे)) — Right in Fischer → down in Haworth.
- –OH on C-4 (down) (C-4 पर –OH (नीचे)) — Right in Fischer → down in Haworth.
- CH₂OH (C-6) up (CH₂OH (C-6) ऊपर) — For every D-sugar the CH₂OH on C-5 points up in the Haworth ring.
- CH₂OH (C-6) up (CH₂OH (C-6) ऊपर) — Same in both anomers.
- Pyran (पाइरैन) — A cyclic compound with one oxygen and five carbons in a six-membered ring; hence “pyranose”.
- Thick edges = nearer to you (मोटी भुजाएँ = आपके निकट) — A Haworth ring is a flat hexagon seen edge-on: the thick bonds are toward you, groups are drawn straight up or down.
