Parts and what they mean
- α-D-(–)-Fructofuranose (α-D-(–)-फ्रक्टोफ्यूरैनोस) — Five-membered ring (4 C + 1 O). Anomeric –OH at C-2 is on the opposite side to the C-6 CH₂OH.
- β-D-(–)-Fructofuranose (β-D-(–)-फ्रक्टोफ्यूरैनोस) — Anomeric –OH at C-2 on the same side as the C-6 CH₂OH. This is the form present in sucrose.
- C-2 = anomeric carbon of fructose (C-2 = फ्रक्टोस का ऐनोमरी कार्बन) — It carries both the anomeric –OH and C-1 (CH₂OH). It was the keto carbon.
- α: anomeric –OH down (α: ऐनोमरी –OH नीचे) — Opposite to CH₂OH (C-6).
- β: anomeric –OH up (β: ऐनोमरी –OH ऊपर) — Same side as CH₂OH (C-6).
- C-1 (CH₂OH) on the anomeric carbon (α: up) (ऐनोमरी कार्बन पर C-1 (CH₂OH) (α: ऊपर)) — C-1 is outside the ring in fructose.
- C-1 (CH₂OH) on the anomeric carbon (β: down) (ऐनोमरी कार्बन पर C-1 (CH₂OH) (β: नीचे)) — C-1 is outside the ring in fructose.
- –OH on C-3 (up) (C-3 पर –OH (ऊपर)) — Left in Fischer → up.
- –OH on C-3 (up) (C-3 पर –OH (ऊपर)) — Left in Fischer → up.
- –OH on C-4 (down) (C-4 पर –OH (नीचे)) — Right in Fischer → down.
- –OH on C-4 (down) (C-4 पर –OH (नीचे)) — Right in Fischer → down.
- C-6 (CH₂OH) up (C-6 (CH₂OH) ऊपर) — Up for a D-sugar.
- C-6 (CH₂OH) up (C-6 (CH₂OH) ऊपर) — Up for a D-sugar.
