Parts and what they mean
- β-(1→4) glycosidic link (β-(1→4) ग्लाइकोसाइडी बंध) — C-1 of one β-D-glucose to C-4 of the next. This β-link (not α as in starch) is the basic structural difference between cellulose and starch.
- β-D-Glucose unit (β-D-ग्लूकोस इकाई) — Its C-1 –O– points up (β).
- β-D-Glucose unit (drawn turned over) (β-D-ग्लूकोस इकाई (पलटी हुई)) — In the real chain each unit is rotated 180° relative to its neighbour, which keeps the chain straight. Turned over, its CH₂OH points down.
- β-D-Glucose unit (β-D-ग्लूकोस इकाई) — The chain continues on both sides.
