Parts and what they mean
- Propene, an unsymmetrical alkene (प्रोपीन, एक असममित ऐल्कीन) — The two C=C carbons carry different numbers of H atoms (1 and 2).
- Diborane, (BH₃)₂ (डाइबोरेन, (BH₃)₂) — Adds H–B across the double bond.
- Alkylborane formed in the first addition (पहले योग में बना ऐल्किलबोरेन) — B is on the terminal CH₂ (the carbon with more H atoms).
- Trialkylborane (CH₃CH₂CH₂)₃B (ट्राइऐल्किलबोरेन (CH₃CH₂CH₂)₃B) — Each B–H adds to another propene molecule until three propyl groups sit on B.
- Product: propan-1-ol (3 molecules per B) (उत्पाद: प्रोपेन-1-ऑल (प्रति B तीन अणु)) — Oxidation by H₂O₂ in aqueous NaOH replaces each C–B by C–OH.
- Regioselectivity of hydroboration (हाइड्रोबोरॉनन की स्थान-वरणता) — The alcohol looks as if water added opposite to Markovnikov’s rule. Reported by H.C. Brown (1959).
- Acid-catalysed hydration gives propan-2-ol instead (अम्ल-उत्प्रेरित जलयोजन से प्रोपेन-2-ऑल बनता है) — Same alkene, different reagent, different alcohol.
